Book recommendation for young children

Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept, by Jayneen Sanders and illustrated by Craig Smith is a wonderful preventive tool for use with young children.

Through the story of little Knight Sir Alfred, it gently and effectively touches on several aspects of childhood sexual abuse—grooming, secrecy, and threats—while offering smart guidance for both children and the adults reading with them.

The book begins with a helpful Note to the Reader, providing insight into how to make the most of the story and ensure the preventive message resonates with the child.

It also ends with well-thought-out question starters for parents, caregivers, and educators.

I find this book incredibly useful and highly recommend keeping it on your bookshelf and revisiting it regularly to reinforce its important message.

Educate2Empower was co-founded by Jayneen Sanders, the author of Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept, with the mission of empowering children and the caring adults around them on a range of topics designed to keep them safe.

Alongside their collection of books, they offer excellent, free downloadable resources on topics like body safety, consent, and more.

Some of my favorites include When to Begin Consent and Body Safety Conversations ; My Body Safety Rules ; Grooming Red Flags and Internet Safety Checklist for Kids.
